Moreton Bay has always been home to a population of dugongs, but in recent years the number has decreased rapidly.
In 2009 the Foundation agreed to fund a PhD scholarship in the School of Veterinary Science, the University of Queensland,
for a student to study the causes of this collapse, and to try to find ways to reverse it.
Dr Alison Gillespie is the first holder of the scholarship.

Unfortunately following the construction of the new School of Veterinary Science, and subsequent administrative problems, Alison was effectively abandoned, and was not able to complete her course.
This scholarship was then terminated.
